Lovechock organic raw chocolate review

Lovechock sweet nibs and sea salt

Chocolate has always been our weakness. When we were young, we loved white chocolate but didn’t like the taste of dark chocolate because of its bitterness. In the recent years, as we’re transitioning to a healthy vegan lifestyle, we learnt how refined sugar and dairy could affect our bodies in a negative way. On the one hand, we couldn’t ignore those facts. On the other hand, we couldn’t give up on chocolate. So eventually, we started to eat dark chocolate. We first tried chocolate with 52% of cacao, then 72% and in no time it increased to 85%. The bitterness of pure cacao has grown on us now.

A friend of ours gifted us with a few vegan goodies some time ago. One of the items was a vegan chocolate bar, Lovechock Sweet nibs & Sea salt. Lovechock is a 100% organic raw chocolate made out of cacao from Ecuador. The beans are cold-ground instead of being roasted. The benefit of this is that the antioxidants and other nutrients in cacao remain intact during the production.

The eco-friendly packaging is a re-sealable wrapper. We totally appreciated its convenience and the ‘handmade’ looking design. The inside is very colourful with modern graphics. It contains a small quote on a small piece of paper like a fortune cookie.

Lovechock Sweet nibs & Sea salt

Ingredients: Raw cacao mass, cacao butter, dried coconut blossom nectar, dates, cacao nibs (6%), lucuma powder, sea salt (0,4%), Bourbon vanilla.

This Lovechock tablet weighed 70 grams and costed €4 in an organic store/supermarket. The flavour was very pure but not too bitter. We loved the taste of sea salt in this because it wasn’t overpowering. The cacao nibs gave it a crispy texture and made the chocolate flavour more intense.

Lovechock Cranberry & Buckwheat

Ingredients: cocoa butter, raw cacao mass, dried coconut blossom nectar, Hazelnuts, dried cranberries (6%), dehydrated buckwheat (6%), apple juice, sunflower lecithin, Bourbon vanilla, baobab powder, sea salt.

At the vegan food festival in Amsterdam, we bought 2 different flavours of Lovechock. What got us excited was the Creamy Hazelnut Mylk variant. We’ve been looking for the perfect vegan milk chocolate ever since we stopped eating dairy products. We tried a piece of this at the festival, and it was so good! The texture was really creamy and soft. The mix of sourness and sweetness was well balanced. The dehydrated buckwheat added some crunch it.

Lovechock Cherry & Chili

Ingredients: cacao mass, cacao butter, dried cherries (18%), dried coconut blossom nectar, raisins, cacao nibs, lucuma powder, Bourbon vanilla, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, sea salt.

Another thing we liked about Lovechock was that they offer unique flavour combinations. One of it is Cherry & Chili. This flavour was recommended by the seller, so we tried a piece and it was instant love. The cayenne pepper added a little spiciness to the chocolate. It wasn’t too overwhelming while eating it, but afterwards, it was ‘fragrantly spicy’. It balanced out the sweetness and a bit of sourness of the cherry.

Our opinion

Lovechock became one of our favourite vegan chocolate brands. So far, our favourite flavour has got to be Cherry & Chili. The unique ingredients matched so well with each other. And the raw chocolate was not too bitter at all. Normally, we’re not too fond of chocolate that contains fruits, because they are usually loaded with extra sugar that adds a chemically sweet taste to it. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case here. The flavours were fresh and subtle. We would definitely try out the other flavours in the future. Though the only downside is the high price.

En bam, love at first bite!

One day…
